Stars: 4 out of 5
What I like:
What I like is the gender options can also alter bits of the game. However, It doesn't alter the whole story.
There are also many stories. A lot of them are great. Some of them showed humor. Some of them showed deep meanings and all that. So the game does not only focus on the main plot. You are able to learn other people's problem just like real life. I like how it doesn't limit to only students. You can even be friends with a dog, a preschooler, a dying man, a monk and even an old bookstore couple. You are able to see the world through the eyes of people not in your peers.
I also like the unusual combination they used in the game. It is basically a mix of dungeon crawler, education, dating simulator, visual novel and more. It is really weird and I like weird games.
The combat system is good. Even though it is turn based. This is what I like about the game. It is full of thinking. You have to think strategically. Me, who loves strategic games, give the game thumbs up. Also I like how they added battle systems like Rush, All Out Attack and Double attack (? Forgot the name).
The voice acting. I love the voice acting. They are better than some voice acting I’ve seen on TV.
I am also attached to Maiko and the Old Library Couple. They are my favorite minor characters.
What I don’t like:
Too many dialogs. Yes, I know it is a story heavy game. But there are some dialogs that really long and ramble-y that I eventual skipped some parts. Especially classes with Mr. Edogawa. That guy is probably speaking something useful about the origins of the personas but I can go through the game easily and skipping through all the lectures. I came to Persona to have fun not learn about magical creatures.
Yes, there are a lot of classes like English where you get asked by the teachers. You also learn in this game, I guess. No worries, this is not an education heavy game. Although, your character do have tests and things.
Another thing is… it gets repetitive. There are days such as days nearing exam or holidays where your characters have freedom at the morning and evening. All I did was to rank up the social links. Some I can’t cause it is already maxed and I don’t know what to do cause my academic is high and I eventually find nothing useful to do.
The weapons. I remember in the old Persona 3 at the PS2, the protagonist can use different kinds of weapons. In P3P, It doesn’t. Which was a minor let down. I was looking forward to that.
And the battle with Margaret. I really hate fighting her. Just. Tip here, before fighting Margaret, save your game. Or just ignore fighting her at all.
What I would change:
The weapon system. Let them use any type of weapon. Please~
The boys. I want to find a boy who won’t go after a girl because of her looks or flirts with them instantly. Or in love with the MC (It will be like a freaking Otome game)(I know Akihiko, Shinjiro and Ken is probably under this, but at the near end of their social links, they began to “fall” for the girl MC)
Other notes:
Even though I love this game, It is not replay-able. It might be after forgetting what happened. But you get bored after a few replays.
I haven’t played persona or persona 2. I’ve played persona 4 and the series seems to get slightly better. I also like the appearance of Yukiko and the reference to Persona 2 in P3P. (And I want to play P4: Golden so badly rn). I have high hopes for the Persona series. And I heard that Persona 5 is going to be released soon. So I might have a review on that. Can’t wait.
